 Some people think that a homeowners policy covers flood damage. In fact, most homeowners policies do not cover flooding.

This page explains the claims process and steps to follow as you start your National Flood Insurance Program flood insurance claim and work with your adjuster and agent. The more you know, the smoother the process will go. 

 Once you report a loss an adjuster is assigned to assist you with your claim. The adjuster will work with you to reach an agreed amount for the covered loss. The adjuster will also scope the damage and provide an estimateof the covered flood damage and a   proof of loss form to you for signature.  

 The Disaster Assistance Improvement Program’s (DAIP) mission is to  provide disaster survivors with information, support, services, and a  means to access and apply for disaster assistance through joint  data-sharing efforts between federal, tribal, state, local, and private  sector partners. 

After experiencing a flood, flood insurance policyholders may file claims with their insurer. Most claims will settle without significant dispute. In some instances, however, policyholders may disagree with their insurer.
